Join Sri Lanka Street Dog Welfare in our mission to provide vital care and hope to countless dogs. Discover how your support directly impacts their lives, offering medical treatment, spaying, and urgent surgery. Together, we can make a difference.
Our vital mission
At Sri Lanka Street Dog Welfare, we are dedicated to improving the lives of street dogs in Sri Lanka. Our focus is on providing essential medical treatment, spaying services to control population, and emergency treatment. Every penny raised goes directly to helping these animals in need.
How we make a difference:
Community Support
We offer vital financial assistance to ensure animals continue to receive the care they need when their owners face difficult circumstances.
Emergency Surgery
Through emergency veterinary treatment, we help alleviate suffering and promote healing, recovery, and wellbeing for dogs facing distress and unnecessary pain.
Spaying Treatments
Our spaying programmes provide a humane and effective solution to managing the street dog population, reducing suffering and preventing countless unwanted litters.
Fundraising
We generate essential funding by selling tasty vegan dog treats and other products through local shops, markets, and pop-up events, with all proceeds directly supporting our work.

How did we get started?
Hi, I'm Rebecca.
Like many people, I work full-time and juggle the demands of everyday life. In 2025, I was fortunate enough to visit Sri Lanka, a trip that would ultimately change the course of my life.
While travelling around the country, I was deeply affected by the number of street dogs and the heart-breaking conditions in which so many of them were living. Seeing animals suffering from hunger, injury, illness, and neglect was something I simply couldn't ignore. I began carrying food and water with me each day so that I could help feed as many dogs as possible during my travels.
It was during this time that I met Hansika while feeding some of the local street dogs. Hansika shared how, alongside working full-time herself, she spends every day caring for the dogs in her village by providing food and doing everything she can to improve their lives. She also explained the devastating impact of uncontrolled breeding, which has led to an ever-growing street dog population and countless dogs suffering from mange, road traffic injuries, malnutrition, disease, and other preventable conditions.
Inspired by Hansika's dedication, we began working together with a local veterinary practice to provide medical treatment for street dogs, as well as for dogs belonging to families who are unable to afford essential veterinary care. Together, we are committed to improving animal welfare through practical support, compassion, and sustainable solutions.
Over the past year, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters through vegan biscuit sales and donations, we have been able to make a genuine difference to the lives of many dogs in a small part of Sri Lanka. Every meal provided, every veterinary treatment funded, and every dog sterilised has been a step towards reducing unnecessary suffering and creating a brighter future for these animals.
This month marks an especially significant milestone in our journey, as our organisation has officially been granted charitable status by the Charity Commission. Becoming a registered charity is an exciting step forward, enabling us to expand our work, reach more vulnerable animals, and continue building a future where every dog has the chance to live a healthy, safe, and dignified life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Your kindness, encouragement, and generosity are helping to change lives—one dog at a time.
